Salama Child Care Center

After 5 years of operating a licensed child care facility from her home, Ardo Diriye came to ADC in 2009 for financial support and technical assistance to expand her services and fulfill her dream of opening a full-fledged child care center. Combining a passion for the care and development of children with a drive to succeed, Ardo quickly enlisted the help of her family to make this dream a reality. Her daughter, Farah Aidid, also licensed to provide standardized day care and preschool curriculum, has taken the position as Director of Operations, and plays a key role in the day-to-day activities and impressive growth of this center.

The mission of Salama Child Care has has always been to provide children with the finest care, and fun, educational opportunities to learn and grow. Since opening, Salama has become the leader in the state for the provision of child care services that are both culturally sensitive and functionally appropriate.

In just a few short years, Salama Child Care has not only completely renovated a beautiful facility on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis to serve as a bright and lively center for dozens of children downtown, but it has since expanded its operations to an additional location to serve the city of St. Cloud as well.

Owner, Ardo Diriye, is an African immigrant from Somalia. She has transformed her passion and drive into a statewide business success that now employs 25 full-time and 20 part-time staff in the two locations of Minneapolis and St. Cloud.

With such a substantial reach and positive impact in the community, it is no surprise to ADC that the public has chosen Salama Child Care to receive ADC PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD. Director of Operations, Farah Aidid received the award on behalf of the center and her mum.
